    From Mary Jane Mariani, Nominator:
We have many outstanding Catholic teens at Blessed Sacrament Huguenot and Anna Murphy is exactly the one you are searching for. She is indeed not only the one who has touched the hearts of many of the students here at BSH, but also the parishioners at her parish and many needy people within her community and beyond.

At school Anna has taken a leading role as a member of the National Honor Society by tutoring struggling students. She has been a valuable part of this program for over seven years. Also, Anna is active in the Big Brother Big Sister program, which ties the upper school in a beautiful family relationship to the elementary school. Since we celebrate mass at school several times a semester Anna always takes a significant role in the liturgy, usually as a lector. Anna was very involved in our Christmas Mother Basket Drive along with Toys and Coats for Kids Project and very instrumental with the fund raiser for Haitian Relief.

In her parish the whole family is involved in a variety of parish ministries. Anna is particularly involved with the bell choir and the annual Vacation Bible School.
She has gone beyond the normal parameters of teenage service and is active within her community and beyond. Volunteering in the Caritas program for housing and feeding the homeless during the winter is a favorite of Anna's. Also she works for the Harvest of Hope in Ashland, Virginia, harvesting vegetables and bringing them to homeless shelters. To go even further a field Anna has stretched her service to the Heart Work Camp in Charlotte, North Carolina and the Tri-City work camp in Petersburg, Virginia.

Saint Mary's Press President John Vitek, award recipient Anna Murphy

Anna is an A student at Blessed Sacrament Huguenot, helps as a babysitter and mentor for a single mother with two children and in her free time walks for the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.

You have found the young Catholic teen you are looking for. Go no further--for we will be happy to share her with you.
